Euro 2016 is well underway in France and three Sunderland stars are set to participate for their country in the famous tournament. As fans fill the stadiums to see their favourite teams compete for a spot beyond the group stages we are wishing for a successful campaign for our three players.
Loan star Emanuele Giaccherini spent this season with Serie A side Bologna, who ended their campaign in 14th place. He will be competing this summer for the Italian national team with whom he has amassed over 20 caps for. Although it is rumoured that he will not be a Sunderland star for much longer it is hoped that he will still see success with his side in the tournament and bring some positive news to Wearside.
Popular fan favourite Sebastian Larsson also sees time with the Swedish National team this summer as he prepares to take to the field alongside Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimović. The last two Euro competitions have seen Sweden fail to emerge from the group stages but hopefully the hard work of Larsson and co can see them advance to a further stage in 2016.
The final Sunderland player that has successful advanced with his team to the final competition is skipper John O’Shea who continues as a regular for the Ireland National Team. The Irish team see themselves in the same group as Sweden and so therefore offers the fans a chance to see the two black cats face off against each other on June 13th. Ireland are not regular qualifiers, despite making the last tournament and spectacularly crashing out of the group stages. In what is quite possibly John O’Shea’s last major tournament we hope to see the skipper go further than the previous few Ireland squads.
O’Shea and Larsson both start in their head to head game, let the black cats battle commence!
