Prior to the weekends clashes between Euro clubs hoping to clinch a place at the 2017 Women’s Euros two players from the Lady Black Cats were called up to their respective national teams to represent their countries.
Northern Ireland have called up our very own Rachel Furness in hopes to see her participate in their upcoming clashes against Georgia (June 3rd) and Czech Republic (June 7th). They currently sit at fourth in their qualifying group so hope to win these crucial games.
The match on June 3rd sees Northern Ireland play at home and requires them to pick up the three points in hope of qualifying. They then visit the Czech Republic where ideally they hope for another 3 point victory and a stroke of luck regarding the other games.
The Republic of Ireland has called up Stephanie Roche for their two games this week. Currently sitting third in their group they hope to bag three points whilst visiting Finland which, depending on goal difference, would propel them into second place and well on their way to a playoff spot. They then play bottom of the group Montenegro on June 7th and require the three points from the already eliminated team.
Best of luck goes out to both of these players and hopefully some success will be brought to the Sunderland pair.
